It's kind of lame how many venues have been bought by corporations so that now we are constantly reminded of how 1% of the population controls 90% of the wealth. It's an amazing figure.
I'm gonna blame it on the aliens. |

FYI-Chevrolet does not own the old Oakdale Theatre. It is owned by a company called Live Nation which is involved with Clear Channel Communications.
When you hear of venues being renamed it is normally a sponsorship situation. Venues need these key sponsorships to stay alive otherwise they wouldn't be able to bring as many shows around. |

| Well, you checked me on one point, but backed me up on another. Live Nation is HUGE. I can't count how many venues they control. The sponsorship thing is almost deceiving. I can go on, I am actually biting my proverbial tongue. I did enjoy it better when the Oakdale was the Oakdale and Dodge whatever it is was the Meadows. I'm just trying to win tickets. I should just stick to posting about loving gov't mule. None of this really matters. |

| You know, my very first concert EVER was at the Oakdale. Way back when the stage was a revolving circle in the middle of the room. |

| The name is what I enjoyed better. That's it. Nothing is sacred anymore when it comes to money. |

That seems to be everyone's gripe. But the management is pretty much the same, the company that owns it is pretty much the same, and the prices are the same as they were in 2005 when it was the ctnow.com Oakdale theatre.
I understand the concern that a corporation has taken over a theater. But that's not the case with this theater. It's just a sponsor that helps the venue keep their bottom dollar.
Many people don't know it but 95% of the ticket price goes to the artist. Everyone says "Why do I have to pay for a service charge or a $9 beer?"
We'll that's where the venue makes it money. So while everyone thinks they're getting ripped off by corporations and service charges this is not the case. Without those charges there would be no shows. They simply wouldn't be able to pay for their costs.
Ticketbastard on the other hand is a totally different story. |
